2024 DETEC Scholarship Application - Due March 1, 2024
DETEC is firmly committed to the leaders of tomorrow, and for more than a decade, the Cooperative has offered scholarships to local high school and home schooled seniors in its service area.
When you signed up to receive electric service from DETEC, you became a member of the Cooperative. When more funds are generated than are needed to operate, funds are returned to members in the form of capital credits checks. When capital credit checks go unclaimed, the State of Texas allows us to use a portion of these funds for scholarships. This allows us to help promote the education of our local students and improve the quality of life in the communities we serve. The number of scholarships and the amount awarded can vary annually based on the unclaimed capital credit payments for that year.
In 2023, Deep East Texas Electric Cooperative awarded 77 recipients each with a $500 scholarship to assist with their expenses at any recognized institution of higher education.
Applications are reviewed and scored by the Cooperative’s Scholarship Committee based on a written essay, academic performance, community involvement and extracurricular activities. Recipients must also live in the Cooperative’s service area and be an active member receiving service from DETEC. We would like to thank each graduating senior who applied and congratulate the Class of 2023.
